Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday, one of our staff members experienced a medical emergency during the school day. The Weeping Water Rescue Squad and Cass County Sheriff were called to assist and provide care. Fortunately, the staff member was stable and requested their spouse to accompany them to the medical facility. As a result, the ambulance and sheriff remained outside the school for an extended period while waiting for the spouse to arrive.
During this time, the school initiated a "hold" protocol, which is the lowest level of emergency. A hold allows classes to continue as normal, but students remain in their classrooms. This measure is taken when there are no safety concerns for others, but the hallways need to remain clear for emergency responders to assist the individual as quickly as possible.
We understand that the presence of emergency personnel at the school, combined with recent events like the Omaha school shooting, may have raised concerns among parents. However, I want to reassure you that at no point were any students in danger. The hold protocol was used to manage the medical emergency effectively, ensuring the safety and privacy of everyone involved.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Cass County Sheriff and the Weeping Water Rescue Squad for their prompt and professional assistance. Additionally, I would like to commend the Weeping Water Public Schools Administration, Faculty, and Staff for handling the situation with the utmost professionalism during a difficult time.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Kevin Reiman, Superintendent
